Pangandaran (1999)
After starting out in Paris, it was a trip to Indonesia, lasting several months, that enabled me to produce my first body of work. It looks at the daily lives of fishermen from the village of Pangandaran. Here, at the time, the nets were thrown into the sea and hauled in from the beach. Everything found in them was used for survival, sometimes traded locally. I was invited to live with a local family, and so was able to share rather than just observe a way of life dependent on the sea.
